His creative work includes "Cracking the Codes: An Architect's Guide to Building Regulations", published as a book by John Wiley & Sons, a continuing education monograph by NCARB, and an online course by RedVector.com. He co-wrote "Promises, Promises: Forging Healthy Project Relationships", an AIA Documents Education series, and has essays in "Professional Practice 101" and "The Architectural Design Portable Handbook". He is currently writing three books dealing with pre-design analysis, construction design, and design thinking, and has a patent pending for software that advises architects in the design of construction details. He served on the editorial review boards of "Supplement", the AIA's Document subscription Service newsletter, and the Student Edition of the "Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice".
Prof. Yatt was national chair of contracts education for the AIA Documents Committee, a founding member of the AIA/ASCA Professional Practice Summer Institute's Planning Committee, and a conference planner and partnering facilitator for the Design-Build Institute of America. He has lectured to AIA and CSI chapters and state and national conventions. He spends summers writing, consulting, and serving as an expert witness.
Prof. Yatt has a professional degree from Cornell University, became licensed in 1982, and practiced with Skidmore Owings & Merrill and other firms before forming his own practice in Chicago. He had significant roles in such projects as Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Center, Arthur Anderson's Center for Professional Education, the Vivekananda Vedanta Society Monastery, and the Baltimore Sun Publishing Plant. He was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2002.
