Private institutions include the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Religious groups include the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and National Cathedral.

Educational and medical facilities include many university campuses and hospitals such as the National Institutes of Health and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
