CUArch - Pryzbyla Center Roofline

Welcome to the School of Architecture and Planning

The School of Architecture and Planning, located in Washington, D.C., is dedicated to the professional education of architects and planners and others who will design, build and conserve the built environment. Utilizing the nation’s capital and other cities as design laboratories, the graduate program provides an enriching educational climate in which students investigate the realms of design, theory and building within the context of the world in which we live.

Students are exposed to a variety of architectural experiences through a choice of design studio options that include cultural studies/sacred space, digital architecture, digital fabrication, real estate development and urban design/conservation.

Experiences in Architecture // 2012

The Experiences in Architecture program at The Catholic University of America is an intense three-week workshop for students interested in architecture or other design-related fields. Students are exposed to both the academic and the professional sides of the architecture arena, as the city of Washington, D.C., becomes their classroom.

The Experiences in Architecture program will better prepare you for the rigors of architecture school, giving you a head start, as well as acquaint you with campus life at a university. Students who have participated in EiA’s summer workshop, or a similar pre-college program, are better prepared for success at the university level.

Student Work

Urban Institute Studio

Enhancement of our urban environment, creating beauty and a sustainable public realm is an ambitious goal. We at CUA seek to provide opportunities for students to participate in community-based projects, and to fundamentally contribute to their communities as informed citizens and educated designers when they leave our university. Programs such as these efforts build positive relationships and help foster a commitment to community service.

Frequent meetings with Urban Institute Studio, community organization leaders, government agencies and private sector consultants, expanded students’ awareness of neighborhood needs and desires. These gatherings enable students to understand how the neighborhood impacts daily lives. They learn to identify what aspects make a positive neighborhood feeling and what may be unacceptable conditions.

The Urban Institute Studio is an affliate of the Urban Design Studio.  For more information on the UIS, click here
